Williams Production Techniques

Williams states in his production notes that “the straight realistic play with its genuine Frigidaire and authentic ice-cubes, its characters who speak exactly as its audience speaks, corresponds to the academic landscape and has the same virtue of a photographic likeness.”(xvii) He goes  on to suggest that reality can only be represented “through transformation, through changing into other forms than those which were merely present in appearance”.
Williams employs three devices to achieve this: The screen; music; and lighting.
With your partner, consider how Williams uses these three techniques to find “a more penetrating and vivid expression of things as they are.
Fill in the relevant section of this document. Don’t forget to go back and read and respond to the ideas of your peers and add your own thoughts.
