Conveying Tension

Re-read chapter 7 and note the following elements in your text:

  • Hassan’s dream
  • The atmosphere of the morning.
  • Why did Amir “almost apologize” on page 53?
  • Amir’s emotional state on 54.
  • The description of the kites (55)
  • The blood on Amir’s hands.
  • The atmosphere at the final cutting.
  • “The next time I saw him smile unabashedly like that…”
  • “Vindication. Salvation. Redemption”.
  • Another dream

Task: For each of these features, suggest how they might contribute to building tension across the chapter.
