Instructions for reviewing language

In order to correct the language errors you make in your writing, you will need to investigate the error that you are making. I will indicate what the error is and give some resources where you can find out more, but it is your responsibility to learn where you are going wrong. Follow these steps:

  1. On your work you will find comments that simply contain a number
  2. Look-up the language correction guide to find the corresponding language error
  3. Use the resources to learn where you are going wrong. Chances are you don’t even realise you have made a mistake so compare what you have written with the examples.
  4. Use the comments feature on Docs to make a correction. Don’t change the original document as this makes it difficult for us to see what you have learnt.
Here’s an example
Notice the detail I have made with the correction:
  1. I correct the error
  2. I state why the error needs correction
  3. I give a similar example using different words or phrases.

Tidying up docs

You may have noticed that your google docs page is getting messy. If you don’t organise it, pretty soon you won’t be able to find anything.

You already have one collection that I have shared with you. This is for your submitted English work and allows me to see your work. However, there are times when you will need to store work that isn’t submitted to me. Also, I will share documents with you that will need to find again. What happens to these? Follow these steps if you haven’t done so already.

  1. Click “Create” or “New” then click “Collection”. Collections are kinda like folders but cooler. They allow the same document to be in two places (or more) at once.
  2. Create a collection called M5 English. You might like to create collections for all your classes.
  3. Once you have done this, simply drag all your English documents into this collection. Don’t drag the ones that already in the “English Submission Folder” as this will remove the document from this collection.
Once you have done this. We need to think about a logical way of naming your documents. One thing students always forget is to name their electronic documents. Here’s how to do it:
  1. Class Unit Document Name Your Name
  2. eg. M5 Allegory The Butter Battle Allegory Allison Conrad
You should try name all your documents like this. Imagine what my documents list looks like. I receive a long list of documents like “Untitled 1”, “My Allegroy” “Draft 1” etc.
